Das Großhandel ätherische Zimtöl wird durch Wasserdampfdestillation aus dem Cinnamomum zeylanicum-Baum gewonnen, auch Ceylon-Zimt oder echter Zimt genannt. Es gibt zwei Arten von ätherischen Ölen: eines aus den Blättern, das sanfter, gelb bis hellbraun ist und am häufigsten in der Aromatherapie verwendet wird; und die andere aus der Rinde, die dunkler braun ist und in der Aromatherapie üblicherweise nicht bevorzugt wird. Zimtöl wirkt beruhigend mit starken antiseptischen Eigenschaften. Bei Verwendung in einem Ölbrenner soll dieses Öl bei Erkältungen und Bronchitis helfen und Depressionen lindern. Es ist Wird bei Bronchitis, Durchfall, Schüttelfrost, Infektionen, Grippe, Rheuma und Arthritis angewendet, wenn es in Badewasser verwendet oder in ein Massageöl eingemischt wird. Es lindert Übelkeit und Erbrechen.

Es stimuliert das Drüsensystem und reduziert so Menstruationsbeschwerden. Vermeiden Sie das Blattöl während der Schwangerschaft.

Das Zimtöl ist sehr stark und sollte nur unter fachkundiger Aufsicht verdünnt verwendet werden. Der Zimtbaum stammt aus dem indischen Subkontinent und ist seit Jahrhunderten ein wichtiger Handelsgegenstand zwischen Indien, China und Ägypten. Die Zimtquelle war der westlichen Welt lange Zeit ein Rätsel. Nach Angaben von Herodot und anderen Autoren war Arabien die Zimtquelle. Die Geschichte besagt, dass riesige Zimtvögel an einem mysteriösen Ort, an dem Zimtbäume wuchsen, Zimtstangen für ihre Nester sammelten. Die Araber betrogen dann die Vögel und holten den Zimt von ihnen. Dies war der Glaube bis 1310 in Byzanz.
