Dieses Großhandel ätherische Nelkenöl im wird normalerweise durch Wasserdampfdestillation aus den Blättern, Stängeln und Knospen des Eugenia caryophyllata-Baums gewonnen, der in Indonesien und auf den Malakka-Inseln heimisch ist. Dies ist ein starkes Öl mit einem warmen, starken, würzigen Geruch und muss sehr verdünnt und mit viel Sorgfalt in der Aromatherapie verwendet werden. Nelkenöl kann zur Heilung oder Linderung von Akne, Blutergüssen, Schnitten und Verbrennungen, Beinschmerzen und als Schmerzmittel bei Rheuma und Arthritis verwendet werden. Es soll auch gut für das Verdauungssystem sein und bei Erbrechen, Durchfall, Blähungen, Krämpfen und Parasiten helfen. Es wird als wertvoll zur Linderung von Atemproblemen wie Bronchitis, Asthma und Tuberkulose angesehen.

In der Aromatherapie stimuliert dieses ätherische Öl den Geist und wirkt als Aphrodisiakum. Es beseitigt geistige Erschöpfung und Müdigkeit und induziert Schlaf bei Schlaflosigkeit.

Gewürznelken wurden im alten Indien und China im Volksmund verwendet. Es wird angenommen, dass die alte chinesische Medizin Nelken zur Behandlung von Verdauungsstörungen, Durchfall, Hernien, Fußpilz und Pilzinfektionen verwendete. Es wird seit der Antike in diesen Ländern zur Behandlung von Geschwüren im Mund, Zahnschmerzen und als Atemerfrischer verwendet. Es war eines der ersten Gewürze, die gehandelt wurden. Arabische Händler sollen in den Tagen des Römischen Reiches Gewürznelken nach Europa gebracht haben.
